Three young players from Nottingham and Leicester have fought off stiff competition to be selected to train at Notts County FC’s Centre of Excellence for the development of young football talent.

Is-haq Makki-Brown, aged 8 from Nottingham, Thomas Winfield, aged 12 from Coalville and Louie Jarvis, aged 9 from Ibstock have been told that they will join the Centre of Excellence for a 6 week trial period after attending an open trial held at Hood Park Leisure Centre, Ashby-de-la-Zouch on Sunday 10th July. The boys will get to train and develop their potential under the Club’s experienced and FA qualified coaches.

Previous Centre of Excellence players Lewis Whiteley, Haydn Hollis, Liam Mitchell and George Nicholas went on to join to train and play as full time scholars in the youth teams, and at 18 years old are now playing professionally for the Club.

The open trial was held by Leicester-based Kick Start in partnership with Notts County FC in a move to scout young talent from the region. Commenting, technical skills coach at Notts County FC, Brett Adams says: “Reformed by the Club three years ago, the Centre of Excellence has been a great success in developing young talent, with four from our first crop already making it as professionals with us.

“Forming this partnership with Kick Start enables us to expand our scouting network into Leicester with the aim of giving young talent the opportunity to reach their sporting potential and possibly eventually play as professionals.”

Some of the local children who attended the Sunday trial will also go on to train with a new Notts County FC Development Centre being launched at Hood Park Leisure Centre on Tuesday 19th July (from 5.30pm).

The Development Centre sessions for 6 to 12 year olds will follow the same programme as the Elite players signed on for the Club’s Development Squad (for 6 and 7 year olds) and Centre of Excellence. Coaching will be provided by Dan Leivers, director of Kick Start and one of the Notts County FC Centre of Excellence coaches.

“Young players who didn’t attend the trial can still get in touch and join the Development Centre,” says Dan. “The programme is run in blocks of ten weeks and split into two age groups. It’s a great opportunity for them to get access to the Club’s coaches who will help them to improve their game and technical ability.”
